The Situation:
Craving reconnection

Grow Financial, a $4B credit union based in Tampa, FL, was looking for purpose-filled ways to re-engage their existing 250K member base. As a credit union that proudly championed "people over profits", they were in the market for unique solutions to connect more deeply with their members. The company wanted to renew cardmembers' interest and differentiate their card portfolio from competitors—all while staying true to their mission to create a positive, lasting impact on their Tampa community.

The Challenge:
Creating meaningful engagement

The program needed to be easy to implement, quickly brought to life, and continuously optimized to grow and adjust as new needs arose. To provide Grow Financial with a fresh approach, Harness developed a strategy that would transform transactions into purpose-filled engagement. This charitable giving program would allow members to automatically “round up” on card purchases, with half of the “round up” going directly to a local nonprofit, while the other half went toward a gift card giveaway. Winners would receive an instant SMS notification, thanks to our integration with Visa and its real-time authorization of payments. The idea instantly clicked with Grow Financial and their goals, and the credit union enthusiastically agreed to a pilot program.

The Solution:
A collaborative pilot

Together, Harness and Grow Financial began a highly collaborative process to identify local charities and prizes for the program, conduct internal testing, and roll out the pilot program to the organization’s card portfolio. In addition to assisting with building and implementing the program, Harness helped Grow Financial utilize our white-labeled solutions to create a suite of branded marketing assets across channels. Post rollout, Harness continued to assess and optimize the program, reviewing messaging and collateral, updating prize types, and streamlining the sign-up process.

Grow Financial loved this unique, dynamic program that allowed members to not only easily donate to local charities, but also provided a memorable, instantly gratifying experience—one that encouraged cardholders to be more active across the credit union’s products. The pilot program resonated with members, resulting in an impressive 7% increase in spend and 12% growth in transactions. Today, Grow Financial and Harness are working together to continue to enrich the program as well as developing additional targeted programs and incentives to help the credit union meet their goals.
